Nolan Ross' Bedtime Stories (2528 words) by faviconstoriesfortravellers
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Revenge (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Nolan Ross, David Clarke, Amanda Clarke | Emily Thorne, Emily Thorne, Victoria Grayson, Jack Porter, Tyler Barrol
Summary:

Nolan thinks that the Hamptons are like a fairy tale. A twisted, amusing, terrifying fairy tale.

Nolan Ross. Fairy Tales. What could be better? I especially love the first one, where he sees Amanda/Emily as Snow White while he's her magic mirror conscience, afraid she'll become the new evil queen. Also Nolan as the Ugly Duckling/frog prince, never able to forget his past is wonderful.

La Mano d'Oro (1374 words) by faviconqueenofthorns
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Borgias, A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth
Characters: Jaime Lannister, Brienne of Tarth, Tyrion Lannister, Cesare Borgia, Micheletto (Borgias)
Summary: Cesare Borgia meets the most unusual condottieri in Italy

Only the first chapter is up so far but it's promising all the same. It draws heavily on the ASOIAF books since it mentions Tyrion's mismatched eyes and there are spoilers for later books as well as for the entire first season of The Borigas.

“There is another matter,” Cesare says as he signs his own name to the contracts. "Too secret to put to paper."
"Assassinations will cost you extra," Tyrion Lannister says.

I haven't rec'd anything for a while so here's some two very short original one-shots I hope some of you check out.

The Name's Barbara by [livejournal.com profile] kungfuwaynewho
Word Count: 600, Rating: PG,
Original Fic Pairings: Barbie/Ken, Barbie/Batman, Barbie/He-Man, Barbie/Skeletor, Barbie/Ugly Doll
Summary: All Barbara wants is a pleasant dinner and nice conversation. Is that too much to ask?
A really inspired piece, a sort of cynical 'Toy Story' for adults. The narration is wonderful and lets us see inside Barbie—sorry, Barbara's—head.

The Gift Wife by [profile] alderspring
Word Count: 553, Rating: PG-13
Original Fic
Summary: "HENRY JOHN CHRISTCHURCH, YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN TO RECEIVE A BRIDE!" The e-mail, once read, looked surprisingly legitimate, especially considering the all-caps hysteria of its subject line.
A fantastic short story in which a man receives an email telling him he's won a bride. There's a twist end, and a plot point which references the meaning behind a given name. Marvellous.

Sherlock BBC fanfic 'Make It Through'" by [livejournal.com profile] fenm for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo promot "Depression".
Rating: PG /Word Count: 722/ Warnings: Discussion of John's wound/scar
Summary: In the midst of depression, Sherlock finds an unusual source of strength and hope.

Overall: It's slash but very mild and the characters are very well drawn.
Why I recommend it: on the strength of this particular quote from Sherlock:
""When you're in the middle of it, it's all you can think of... you can't imagine it ever ending; hell, sometimes it's hard to remember things ever being any different..."
meridian_rose: pen on letter background with text saying 'writer' (legend of the seeker: darken rahl text)
Title: What If
Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Pairing/Characters: Kahlan/Rahl
Rating: 15/R
Word Count: 1281
Prompt: For the [livejournal.com profile] 100_tales prompt #085 anger
Summary: AU that addresses what might have happened if Kahlan had succeeded in killing Nicholas Rahl
Warnings: Spoilers for Reckoning. Character Death (Minor character)
Notes: Inspired by a discussion at the [livejournal.com profile] peoplespalace; thanks to everyone who participated and who gave me so many ideas, and answered my questions about the LotS canon/SoT canon.
I also want to rec [livejournal.com profile] hrhrionastar's fic on the same subject (it was a very inspiring discussion!) Master - some powerful imagery and a fantastic ending. My take on the subject is not so dark and probably much less realistic.

What have you done  )
meridian_rose: pen on letter background with text saying 'writer' (spike: english)
My sleep patterns are wonky this week; I'm just about getting enough sleep but last night I was up until almost two am. I didn't mind too much because I was reading this great Robin Hood fic that was rec'd to me a couple of times (A Very Guy Christmas Carol) and participating in a "What If" discussion over at the [livejournal.com profile] peoplespalace. It was nice to be around "real time" as usually of course I'm usually asleep when the Americans and Canadians are getting home from work and posting. I was glad to have the internet back to occupy me while I wasn't tired (plus I was still catching up on things anyway)

I can tell I went to bed late because I only had to read back twenty entries this morning rather than fifty or sixty that usually greet me on my flist :D

I even wrote a fic inspired by the discussion, which I'll post the moment I've edited with my Awake head on (after I've had tea. I need tea to function properly). I ought to have written it at 750 words.com as it ended up well over 1k, but I lost my four day streak to the internet outage (touch wood it's okay now) and I wasn't ready to start again until I was sure I had a chance of making it to five days this time.

Oh, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs post, I signed up at [livejournal.com profile] storycubes - take a look, it's a different sort of prompt comm. And I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] episode20in20 again this round, so I can have an excuse to make "Justified" icons.

I'm slightly worried how much of "high" I'm on with all this signing up for stuff and feeling very enthusiastic. These things are cyclical and I know there'll be a day when I wonder what the hell I was doing taking on so many projects (and landcomms, etc). But I ought to be positive about it and remember that I do need a certain amount of downtime - less creative time can be used for editing or thinking rather than creating/doing, after all.
meridian_rose: pen on letter background with text saying 'writer' (yuletide: sun)
Whew! Yuletide is over - though the New Year Resolutions section will remain open pretty much until the 2011 Yuletide gets underway.

I had a wonderful Cara-Zedd friendship fic as my gift: Midsummer's Eve by Oparu; "Zedd and Cara spend midsummer's eve talking about lovers around a campfire". It's sweet and in-character, and while Richard and Kahlan are away, allows for some bonding between the Mord'Sith and the wizard. One of my favourite lines was from Cara who proclaims at one point, ""It is not arrogance when it is based in fact." Never change, Cara :)

I wrote my assigned fic and three treats (iz pleased with self). Links below, all are also at my collections: Archive Of Our Own and FF.net

Veritas fic: Family
Listener fic: Faith
Fringe fic: Not Her World
Nightmare Before Christmas/Hogfather (Discworld) crossover fic: The Ill-advised Skeletal Exchange Programme

I'd never dared to consider writing Discworld fic before but that latter fic has received the most attention, kudos, and reviews I've ever had. I even got rec'd, multiple times! A real boost to my confidence.

I've read some great fics but I'm still going through them, commenting, adding kudos, etc. Eventually they'll be in my bookmarks at Archive Of Our Own.

I really ought to do this every year; since I didn't last year, here's my 2009 Yuletide info 2009 )
