Day 9 – Commit an act of kindness

I'm not sure it's nice so much as part of being polite and part of fandom and meets my goal of commenting on fics I finish, but I've left a lot of comments this week on fic and icons, including an icon I found on another site and sent PM to let user know I loved their work. I wrote semi-crack fic for [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's prompt and posted it here. I read, commented, and voted on original fic at [community profile] therealljidol. I linked someone to a piece of media they'd expressed interest in. And I've tried to leave comments on posts in my circle and to reach to a few new people via snowflake and have made new friends!

And if anyone needs an invitation for AO3 I have a couple, just comment and let me know and I'll send you a code :)

edit: [profile] tjs_whatno wanted for their 6 for people to check out other people who are completing day 6 (fannish wishlist) later, so I've tried my best to give some recs and comments :)

As I mentioned in my previous BAG (personal) post I know it's been a rough year for most, one way or another. I'm feeling more positive for 2019, and I'm sending you all good vibes! Happy New Year whenever it occurs in your timezone!

While my GYWO 250k total was out of reach, I did manage to make my self-imposed goal of 100k before the end of the year! I've signed up for the modest 150k next year.

There's been more activity at Dreamwidth lately which is amazing, welcome to all newcomers, and thank you to those of you still following me after many months/years :)

I've been away with family so I'm behind on reading and replying but I getting caught up, please bear with me ;)

For newcomers, this is my BAG post, a term borrowed from the Fluent Self blog (Been, At, Going). I've not done great updating the monthly personal post this year but I hope to do better.

Just once a month I make a detailed personal post, and inspired by the Fluent Self blog, I call it a BAG post, where I've Been, am At, am Going. Posts may include good stuff/work/health/family/pets/creativity/general whining and I finish off by including some gifs for people to enjoy.

I've finally responded to all the comments on my previous personal (BAG) post, I think. Apoloiges for the delay, and posting my next update before replying to the comments on the previous one. After my much needed rant I took a very short break and I seem to have been playing catch-up ever since - see also ISP issues, below.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post, which received a decent amount of attention at Tumblr too. I've polished it up and posted it to my professional blog and promo'd at my professional Tumblr: The Myth of the Relationship Hierarchy Strikes Again wordpress tumblr
I'll reblog the original post with links to the professional post when my ISP lets me properly access resource hungry sites like Tumblr/Feedly/Facebook/Photobucket. I'm having serious issues with Virgin Media and from what I've read, I'm not the only one.

I posted a brief note/mini meta about Leverage's Parker here

I've got three trope bingo fills to post and then I can claim bingo, fingers crossed.

It snowed briefly today, didn't settle, but highly unusual for this time of year in the West Midlands. We're almost at Mayday, Beltaine, where is our late spring weather?

Quick update: 30,136 words!

Things I'm doing in NaNo that I sometimes do but am doing even more: placeholder names for people and places that I'll have to fix in editing, but which I know I can't stop and choose now because I'll waste so much valuable writing time and interrupt my flow. Having no clue about directions (also placeholders for NORTH, SOUTH, etc) until I get a rough map of the territory planned out. Having only a vague idea about the layout of the main residence where most of the action takes place and hedging details.

Things I'm doing in NaNo that I know are a good thing but sometimes it's nearly painful: writing crappy sentences and not stopping to fix spelling errors. I'm trying to write what I mean, so later I can come back and express it in a more polished manner, rather than rewriting a sentence three times and maybe using the thesaurus and then editing the previous sentence as well because now it doesn't work as well.
That's not to say I'm not rewriting at all because occasionally I do need to merge or rearrange a couple of sentences. But I'm limiting it, a lot.

I'm still concerned about So Many Things.
But I've written over 30k in 18 days. Not the suggested minimum every day but close enough, and making it up on others, that I don't get too far behind.
And I've also written this month at least 1k on my Small Fandom Big Bang; about 3.5k on the first draft of my Yuletide fic; about 3k in meta/reviews.
Other things have fallen by the wayside and I want to explore more what I'm learning and how I might move forward after NaNo.
For now, I'm reeling a little at the enormity of it, how far I've come, and how far I have yet to go.
And I want to say a quick thank you to everyone who's been cheering me on!

I got an email today telling me someone has given me six months of paid DW time :D It's a birthday gift - probably delayed in delivery due to recent payment issues on DW's end (I got a birthday card that had been misdirected in the post yesterday too!) so a very merry unbirthday it is :D Thank you very much, anonymous gift giver! I'll upload more icons later this week in celebration!
