Hi everyone!
It's been a bit of an odd several weeks. And so this is a bit of a random update!
The internet is still working when it feels like it and we finally got some good weather so I 've been able to do some reading outside which is a favourite part of summer time.
With the school holidays, my sister and her husband took the boys away for a week and I stayed at their house looking after Lyra (dogs went with them, cat stays home!). The next week the boys wanted to do camping in our garden a throwback from visits when they were in Wales, so up went the tent and out came the paddling pool!
Also we did the Bear Hunt in Birmingham recently (that's another post) which was something a bit different.
Birthday - thanks for the best wishes! - and I'm still not happy because I think expectations are so much different than your forties, though everyone at church kept being amazed and/or saying I look younger which is always nice to hear. We had a meal at a pub we'd not tried before which was nice, and then tea and cake and cuddles with sister's puppy Rufus, and watched a movie.
Last year I'd been saving up for a new - refurbished- pc and couldn't find anything that met the spec I wanted. In addition to the internet woes the pc (also a refurb that's been amazing for several years) has been getting slower for a while and sometimes 'grinds' away trying to deal with software using a lot of memory or in hot weather. So brother in law had a browse found an ebayer specialising in refurbished pcs and looks like I'm getting a new-to-me one soon. It has a lot more memory and much faster processor so should be a decent upgrade. It's cheaper than I'd expected too, a good thing because my finances won't be so great going forward - see next paragraph. I'll probably have to spend some time testing it out before unplugging this one for good, and install everything I need.
Work...I'm supposed to have a meeting in September with someone from the MAT (multi-academy trust) in September to discuss how my role will change (mostly downgrading) now the MAT is in charge of the school. I'm still concerned for my future employment but as present they're still going to have to keep paying me monthly. I just won't get the sort of extra hours I've worked the last couple of years as my duties expanded. It's a very part time position that suits me. Things are still in flux.
I've done a tiny bit of crafting to share when finished, and got a felt your own capybara gift for my birthday.
And of course I am very behind on reading here at Dreamwidth, I will try to catch up a little bit and go through my inbox.
I'm still behind on get your words out. While my writing is suffering a bit that's not the internet's fault. The next round of Small Fandom Bang opens soon but I don't have the energy or inspiration, though I am thinking about Yuletide as nominations will open in September.
I managed to participate in all the lands of magic challenges to some extent though perhaps not as well as I'd have liked ( I did get third place for overall points scored though!). Round up post to follow at some point. Good news is we're getting a round 14 which was in doubt for a while.
I haven't felt too sad about not being online loads because of having other things to do. I've been playing a hidden object/match 3 game that plays offline when internet is down and managed to do a few things, and I'm ok with only occasional visits to social media which is probably a good thing.
I hope everyone's doing okay.

Date: 2024-08-27 04:18 pm (UTC)Hey!!! I have been wondering how you are, I presumed you had internet problems.
I hope I said Happy Birthday! If not, belated Happy Birthday!
I've got a refurbished laptop from eBay, it’s brilliant but as you say, it grinds away in the hot weather. When there were a few heatwave days, I put the poor thing on the floor in the cloakroom downstairs to keep it cool, as that was the coolest room in the house.
I know what you mean about work troubles…my husband’s job is looking precarious and I am getting less work online thanks to AI doing so much more now. So we’re not exactly prospering, it’s scary isn’t it.
I'm addicted to Match 3 games, I like Candy Riddles and Sugar Heroes best. I think it’s a harmless hobby, I've got to do something to stop myself fretting.
I'm glad you’re back here, even if temporarily! 💗

Date: 2024-09-04 08:37 am (UTC)Not just my old faithful pc that hates the heat then! Hoping the new one will be better when I get it set up in a couple of weeks. I need a new monitor cable or adapter since this pc is newer and has different connections.
It is scary and I'm sorry you're finding AI is stealing work. I've already decided not to do NaNoWriMo with the site even if I do decide on a project this November, because of their stance on it being acceptable to use AI.
Ooh, I don't know those ones, there are so many great Match 3 games. It is harmless because unless you're spending real money on boosters or other bonuses it's just a pleasant way to spent some time focussed on a puzzle game :)
I hope to find a bit more of a balance as the days will get cooler and it's not so pleasant to be outside, but not to get too bogged down in everything online. But Dreamwidth is pleasant to be around :D

Date: 2024-09-04 04:06 pm (UTC)NaNoWriMo is accepting AI works now?? Oh, well I'm afraid that'll be the end of NaNoWriMo, won't it...I thought the whole point of that competition was to get humans to use their brains, not just to press a button and get a finished work. Might as well call it NaAIWriMo 😕
Those two match 3 games I mentioned are very cute, very addictive and you're right- I don't spend money on any of them. I don't care if I can only get up to a certain stage, I just stay at that stage. The point is to relax, not compete and strive to win.
Yes, it's best to just go to nice places online, not everywhere. I think years ago, most people started out being on every site, then as time went on we all realised most of the sites aren't very nice! And now we stick to the few and far between nice sites 🌹

Date: 2024-09-04 08:39 am (UTC)At the moment the capybara is very flat ;p Also my sister and brother in law got a beautiful fox felting kit they want me to do for my eldest nephew who loves foxes. I'll never get the face so cute as the pics! So I'll be felting a lot the next few months :D

Date: 2024-09-04 08:28 am (UTC)I hope to get the new pc up and running in a couple of weeks when I've had chance to finish up a few things I need to get done and make sure I've got backed up, and maybe purchased a new cable for the monitor since this pc will be much newer and needs a different connection!
