Day 08
Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before
Within this year's challenge I've done that, commenting on other people's entries, as well as leaving comments on fanfic at AO3 for authors who are new to me.
Day 03
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
1. Hands down, Weather Every Storm, Da Vinci's Demons, modern AU, Riario/Leo, 47k.
To date, my longest ever posted work. It started out as something for the Small Fandom Big Bang (10k minimum) and took on a life of its own. I got to explore so many themes I was interested in, really dig into the emotions between these characters and bring Riario into the Scooby Gang fold. Because Leo cannot be anyone's everything, no matter how much he wants to be. If you want to survive a relationship with him, you have to have strong will and preferably external support for the times he's ignoring you in favour of his work.
I actually want to do some of those "write about a fic" memes for it which is terribly self-indulgent but I don't care. I still love thinking about it, I even re-read it recently because this was a fic for myself as much as anyone, and aside from a few little things (the title came late and there are no chapter titles, for example, which I regret) there isn't much I'd change.
Also stormbrite made me lovely artwork for it and we had some nice conversations as she began watching the show, and she cheered me on through the editing. It was a really lovely experience with my artist, something I'd never had before.
There was maybe going to be a sequel, but there's always going to a sequel to a fic I enjoyed, one which I never actually write :/
2. Currently the only reverse chronology fic I've written is The Last Thing She Said. I'd love to do more but that kind of fic requires a particular way of planning and telling and I've not had another good enough idea to date.
It was podficced – here – by Tarae. To my shame I have not yet listened to the podfic out of some sort of ridiculous embarrassment at listening to my words being spoken aloud. I hope to remedy this soon.
3. My historical AU Compassion and Conjugality, a Revenge fic with Emily/Nolan as endgame. A stand alone sequel to Nolan Ross! In an Adventure with Pirates!.*
I was actually pleasantly surprised, when I went to find the link, that there have been over 200 hits on it, because it seemed to go unnoticed, although the first fic, when the Revenge fandom was slightly more active, got over 1k. Such is the fickleness of fandom :(
4. Everything is Better with Dragons because that's a fact. There are people out there who loved The Borgias despite its historical inaccuracies and yet had the audacity to decry Da Vinci's Demons as fantasy bullshit. I say GIVE ME ALL THE RENAISSANCE HISTORICAL FANTASY.
Series Summary: In a world where magic is real but witchcraft is banned, the Borgia family face the threat of the supernatural as well as more mundane enemies. A witch secretly resides within the House of Borgia, while a spell gone awry gives the family control of a dragon. Fantasy AU.
My only regret is that with the Borgias fandom falling off so sharply after the early cancellation, I let this fall by the wayside. I had planned out the rest of the series of fics but I haven't yet managed to write them. I need someone to cheerlead me on :/
5. I am a very amateur fanvidder and since my vidding software refuses to play with Windows 10 I'm out of the game entirely at the moment. While I'm proud of my silliness in making Da Vinci's Demons vids (Leo as seducer, Riario as Seducer x 2, the angsty every love affair is doomed one), I think my best work is Major Zod:Amazing a Smallville Zod (Callum Blue) centric character study set to "Amazing" by Kanye West. This song is often used for antiheroes, the morally grey, and the villainous since they are aware of their 'badness" ("I'm a monster") and shortcomings but are still determined and self confident ("so amazing", "never gave up"), even embracing and using their weaknesses ("you'll never take that from me"). Zod's character fitted the bill.
Look at me, reccing five things. This getting over myself thing is off to a good start. Someone remind me about it frequently throughout the year please!
*That first fic is bittersweet now; the other people involved in its creation are no longer in my life, one deciding to only give a shit about Tumblr despite having been an active part of my journal circle and who I considered a friend but don't now have contact with, and the other, well, there's an entire based on truth original fic I wrote about what went down there regarding my sexual orientation and how I don't need that bullshit. Such is the tragedy of life :(

You'd think a bisexual would know better than to tell someone that the only sex they'll ever have is suicidal-thought inducing (I'd like to see her scream at a lesbian couple that their sex made her want to die because no penis) but no. All my pleasures and sexual interests that don't involve anyone else were wrong, but it was absolutely essential she gratify herself with someone else's body – I think she had issues around self-esteem, that sex somehow made her worthwhile, but that's no reason to dump on my not-celibate-but-asexual self.
I never did pin her down on how long a spouse had to work away or be too sick for sex before someone was entitled to start screwing all the neighbours, or have her acknowledge that this attitude meant an asexual could never be monogamous. That she was saying asexuals must be alone or stand by and let their partners literally screw around. I'm still angry and hurt but I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.
