Skipping ahead for the moment to day five:
Creators create for a number of reasons. Often, we find ourselves inspired, and in the moment, we create. But creation doesn't occur in a vacuum, and it's too easy to walk away from a fanwork without saying anything.
Creators create for themselves, but they need to know that they have an audience and that their fanworks are being enjoyed by others. Feedback is a way to get some validation that what you've created is good.
Sometimes we go to comment on a fanwork and we find ourselves without the words to express how we feel about the fanwork. Or we become overwhelmed by all the amazing comments the fanwork has already gotten.
Don't let either of these things stop you from leaving a comment. There's no prize for the Best Comment Ever, and the creator just needs to know that you enjoyed the fruits of their labor.
Day 5
Leave feedback for a fanwork. Or multiple fanworks. It can be as simple as I liked this to a detailed list of all the things you loved about the fanwork. The key is to leave some sort of feedback.
I used this to push me to finally got around to leaving comments on fics I'd had open for a while:
Dear Minnie a Harry Potter AU fanfic for trope bingo, an epistolary tale of how Minerva McGonagall adopted Harry; ”...and that's when I knew I just couldn't leave him there. Not because they were Muggles, but because they were those Muggles.” Highly recommended.
The Ghost of Little Hauntington Manor a Da Vinci's Demons modern day ghost hunter AU which probably shouldn't work, but does, and features psychic!Zo and priest!Riario which I didn't know I needed until now. I particularly liked the idea of him being an army padre, giving him weapons and first aid skills which keep him a little more in character. He's a little more of an ass than I prefer, but the author is upfront about that in the tags, so I went in prepared. Worth a look if you can get past that, and/or like the idea of Leo/Zo/Nico.
Which alters when it alteration finds a Disney's Beauty and the Beast post-canon fic. "Belle fell in love with the Beast. What if she isn't as into him as a human?" It's a great exploration of what they've both lost when he becomes human, and their attempts to recapture the passion of the Beauty/Beast dynamic. I've often had issues with the transformation; the Beast with his strong arms and wonderful mane often turns into a rather weedy looking man with, in my first childhood book of the story, a tiny white curled wig. Blurgh :P Bring back the sexy beast. So this was an interesting read and it talked about not just the physical aspects but the loss of freedoms and new behaviours the change forced on them, and how they tackle that.
If You Want Peace a The Borgias/Star Wars fusion. Cesare is Luke, Lucrezia is Leia, Micheletto is Han, and Machiavelli is Obi Wan, while Juan is Darth Vader.

Date: 2016-01-07 10:07 am (UTC)I had a comment on a fairly recent fic saying "this is late" and I'm "no, no, no, comments are love, ALWAYS". It makes me smile to get a kudos on a fic from a couple of years back/longer, or a comment from someone who's just found a fandom and is reading ALL the archived fic. And "I love it" is enough. I know the feeling of "what do I say" but comments are extra love than kudos, even just "I loved reading this".
Not a problem for me with my background and more than one of my fandoms :) I don't really have priest!kink because, not Catholic, doesn't press my buttons, nor does 'authority figure' really do it, though I understand the attraction and will write about it as if it is. But robe!kink, all the black vestments and cardinal red robes, that is a turn on.
She says, shamelessly and unnecessarily talking about her kinks :P
