Just the one question today as it's a longer answer
11. Introduce us to a main character
Gloriana Katerina is the only child of the previous monarch, the High King. It is with reluctance that the Council allowed her to become not just queen but High Queen. To prove her worth Kat decides to take the Grand Tour, a once in a lifetime journey around the continent.
Kat has twenty seven names and hundreds of titles but she's merely Kat to her friends. She couldn't do without the support and love of her family by blood and choice, particularly her grandmother, Honor, and Cal. Her mother disappeared on a dangerous sea voyage, leaving her an orphan.
If Kat marries, the throne will pass to her husband. The more she sees of other kingdoms on the Tour, the more this irritates her. She has brief romantic liaisons but monogamy is unlikely to be on the cards. She is free with her affection in non-sexual matters too, and often shares a bed with Cal on a chaste basis.
She is also committed to never bearing a child, despite the constant Council demands that she give them an heir – a male child could be named king and a regent appointed, another way to remove Kat from her position.
It is said that she is too readable – no "poker face" – but this doesn't mean she is incapable of deceit and Kat is a good judge of character. She is less foresighted than her peers, hasty sometimes, but this can lead to beneficial change because protocols are less important to her than people – she once opened up the dungeons for the homeless to sleep in rather than let them freeze in a harsh winter. She is somewhat of an idealist with grand visions, and when it is obvious she cannot bring all her dreams to fruition, she can be angry and unforgiving to those she blames for standing in the way of progress.
A curse laid on her is invoked in times of great anger, causing her to lash out and predict death/doom the unfortunate who person who angered her, or in some cases, "the next person who touches me". She also suffers from disturbing dreams which may or may not be prophetic.
Kat values loyalty above all else, and woe betide any who betray her, or those who threaten her loved ones. She is determined to prove she is the rightful High Queen, competent and powerful. Her red hair is an outward sign of her lineage. The triple crown would strengthen her claim, but if it isn't a myth then it is still scattered in three pieces, with no real idea as to where those pieces are.
